Southern Door

He will not have to go as far as Cherry Tree Lane in London, but you will see Southern Door’s Noah Rass in New York City next month. Along with Green Bay East’s Jennifer Duarte Castillo, Rass will attend next month’s Jimmy Awards in New York City as the big winner of Saturday’s Center Stage Program held at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton. Rass was nominated for his outstanding performance in a lead role for his take on Bert, the singing and dancing chimney sweep from Southern Door’s production of Mary Poppins. Speaking after the nominations were announced last month, drama director Mary Hall says Rass prevailed in the middle of a lot of competition for a scholarship he also received on Saturday.

Rass was not the only local student who got to walk the red carpet at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. Luxemburg–Casco High School’s production of The Addams Family and Southern Door High School’s imagining of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins were nominated for outstanding ensemble awards. Luxemburg-Casco’s Matthew Brand (Gomez Addams) was also nominated for their outstanding performance in a lead role. At the same time, Bowie Bredael as Morticia Addams and Jonah Doperalski as Uncle Fester received honorable mentions. Southern Door’s Molly Hall (Jane Banks) and Lilly Schmidt (Michael Banks) were nominated for outstanding performances in a supporting role. Hall earned her nomination for being an influential theater educator at Southern Door.
