A late-night encounter with a deer led to a single-vehicle crash in the Town of Sturgeon Bay on Sunday.

The crash occurred on County T near Ridge Road just before 11:45 p.m. when a 16-year-old Sturgeon Bay boy was traveling east and encountered a deer crossing the road. He swerved to avoid the deer but drove off the roadway, through a ditch and into a tree.

The responding deputy noted in his report that there were more deer in the area following the crash.

The teen suffered a possible minor injury but did not need to be transported to a hospital.

The scene was cleared shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday after a tow truck arrived to remove the vehicle.
