Y-Wednesday: Lifeguard shortage impacting pool hours
While it is not a new issue, pools and other aquatic facilities are feeling the impact of not having enough lifeguards, especially as college and high school students head back to class in the coming weeks.
In this week's Y-Wednesday Podcast, Door County YMCA CEO Tonya Felhofer explains why the YMCA has to close its pools when there are not enough lifeguards on duty and discusses the opportunities available for those interested in becoming certified.
That includes the YMCA's lifeguard certification class, which will take place Aug. 3-7 from noon to 6 p.m. each day. The course is free for participants who become lifeguards at the Door County YMCA, and they also receive a free YMCA membership.
