As Birch Creek Music Performance Center kicks off its final week of Summer Academy performances, it will pay tribute to one of its own on Thursday.
The concert will honor the life of longtime Jazz II faculty member Rick Haydon, who died in January. When he was not mentoring young musicians at Birch Creek Music Performance Center, he was doing the same south of the border as a professor emeritus of music at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His obituary stated that "music was not only his profession, but his lifelong language of expression."
Executive Director Jenna Ferdon hopes Thursday's concert honors Haydon's Birch Creek legacy.
Tickets are still available for Thursday's performance, as well as the concerts scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
