The more things change, the more they stay the same for attendees and exhibitors at the Door County Fair.

The annual rite of summer opens to the public Wednesday, with exhibitors heading to John Miles County Park on Monday and Tuesday to pick up their exhibit tags.

Mainstays like livestock shows, pig and duck races, live music and races in the grandstand will continue to greet attendees, while new attractions like Dominguez Attractions and Jurassic Kingdom make their debuts on the midway.

A lot has changed for Door County Fair Board President Tom Ash, who exhibited at the fair as a boy before helping his own children and eventually joining the fair board alongside his brothers and other family members.

He says the county fair is about family, friends and celebrating the end of summer together.

The Door County Fair runs Aug. 12-16.
