Local Primary Results: Vandertie, Zellner win sheriff nominations

The winners of Tuesday’s Republican primary for sheriff in Door and Kewaunee counties face two different paths moving forward.

Eric Zellner captured the nomination in Kewaunee County, garnering 2,711 votes to Scott Szydel’s 1,606 and Kevin Schmidt’s 339. With no Democratic or independent challenger on the November ballot, Zellner is expected to become the next Kewaunee County sheriff and take the reins from retiring Sheriff Matt Joski.

For Curt Vandertie, it is one race down and one to go after beating Carl Waterstreet in the Door County Republican primary for sheriff, 3,114-1,951. Vandertie will now face incumbent Sheriff Tammy Sternard, a Democrat, and independent candidate Randy Wagner in the November election.

In the only other contested local primary, Shannon Lauder edged Pamela Parks, 2,598-2,326, for the Democratic nomination for Door County Clerk of Circuit Court. She will face Becky Rericha in the November election.
