The battle against Alzheimer’s disease stretches across the entire peninsula this year, with three events united for one cause.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place in three Door County communities this year after being primarily held in Sturgeon Bay in years past.
The first of the three events will take place on Washington Island Saturday, beginning at 8:30 a.m., with activities followed by the walk to and from Nicolet National Bank starting at 10 a.m.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will return to Sturgeon Bay on Sept. 12 in conjunction with Sunshine Resources’ Sunflower Fest at the city’s Martin Park. The walk will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The third Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place in Fish Creek, beginning and ending at Stella Maris Church at 8:30 a.m.
Registration is still open for all three events, either online or in person.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, more than 120,000 residents are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and accounts for the majority of all dementia cases.
