An expanded Harvest Festival in Sturgeon Bay this weekend is providing a festive atmosphere for the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Teweles & Brandeis Grain Elevator.
On Friday, September 18, from 4 - 8 PM, the Granary Wharf Cafe will sell drinks and snacks for the Set Sail Artist Reception, and a Ferris wheel will provide free rides overlooking the bay. Then on Saturday, a Czech-themed celebration will honor Teweles’s and Brandeis’s heritage; both men and their families immigrated from Prague, Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) in the late 1800s.
The Granary will be open 10 AM - 7 PM with Czech-inspired refreshments, including Zel?a?ka (sauerkraut soup), available at the Granary Wharf Cafe. Live music will rock the elevators from noon to 5:30pm, including a set from the legendary polka band Jerry Voelker and the Jolly Gents (Fun fact: polka was invented in Bohemia.) There will also be a short program highlighting historic events from 1901.
Be sure to pick up a copy of the special 125th anniversary t-shirt and Historic Events of 1901 booklet, all proceeds from the events benefit the preservation and operation of the Door County Granary.
