Door County residents can help stock local food pantry shelves during the Thrivent “Cans” Hunger Food Drive at Sturgeon Bay Community Church.
The event runs from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 28 at the church, 515 N. 12th St., Sturgeon Bay. The drive is hosted by the Thrivent Member Network-Wisconsin Upper Michigan and local Thrivent advisers.
For every nonperishable food item donated, the Thrivent Member Network will make a financial gift to the Door County Food Pantry Coalition, up to $3,000.
“What is really great about this event is that the Thrivent member network is going to donate three dollars for every food item donated,” said Amy Kohnle, executive director of United Way of Door County.
Suggested donations include canned soup, fruit and vegetables, chicken, tuna and beans, along with cereal, oatmeal, pasta and sauce, granola bars, peanut butter and jelly.
The Door County Food Pantry Coalition which includes 11 churches and food pantries working throughout the county to help residents facing food insecurity.
“The Door County food pantry coalition gets together on a monthly basis to share ideas, share resources and collaborate on food drives,” Kohnle said.
Community members are encouraged to bring as many nonperishable items as they can. No products will be sold during the event.
