The search is over for the County of Door when it comes to filling tenant space at the former Younkers building. The Door County Economic Development Corporation announced Thursday that it will move its offices to the site, which will also be home to the county’s museum archives.
Joining DCEDC in the space is the Door County Tourism Zone, which administers short-term rental permitting and room tax collection for the county’s municipalities.
“This is more than finding a tenant for an empty building,” said David Englebert, county board supervisor and chair. “DCEDC provides a strong, long-term presence downtown while creating a location that serves businesses and communities throughout Door County.”
DCEDC Executive Director Michelle Lawrie says relocating DCEDC to the heart of downtown Sturgeon Bay is an exciting move and one that makes sense given its role as an organization dedicated to business growth in the county.
The county, DCEDC, and Door County Tourism Zone are discussing an occupancy timeline for moving into the building after contracts for its renovation were recently approved by the county board. Lawrie says the goal is to move into their new space next summer.
