The learning continues at the Door County Maritime Museum as the leaves turn. October 1 marked the first of seven monthly presentations in the Maritime Speaker Series and a precursor to Lighthouse Passport Days, which conclude Oct. 4.
Anecdotes about Sturgeon Bay’s role in the country’s military conflicts, important people in the city’s maritime history and landmarks like Plum Island and the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal highlight the Museum’s fall and winter programming. Education Programs Manager Andrea Stromeyer said it is important to continue reaching out to the community throughout the year and sharing the maritime history that defines the area.
In addition to the fall and winter programming at the Museum’s Sturgeon Bay campus, you can visit Cana Island Lighthouse in Baileys Harbor, the Death’s Door Maritime Museum in Gills Rock and the Tug John Purves in Sturgeon Bay all remain open through the end of October.
