Gary Guelette

Gary Michael Guelette, 81, of Brussels, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born February 26, 1942 on the family farm in Kolberg, WI, to Albert and Nervin (Vandertie) Guelette. Gary graduated from Brussels High School and on May 27, 1961 he married his high school sweetheart Karen J. Seigworth at St. Francis Church. Together they raised three daughters.

For many years, he and Karen operated the third generation Guelette Family Farm. Early in Gary’s working career he was a mason and was particularly proud of helping build Southern Door High School. Prior to full retirement, Gary worked 10 years in maintenance for Wave Pointe Marina. But first and foremost, Gary was a farmer. He enjoyed spending time on their land, no matter if it was driving tractor, his beloved Ranger, or sitting in a warm deer stand. Many memories were made on this land with his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends who are considered family as well. His legacy will live on through the things he cherished the most, his family and the farm, including the family hunting cabin.

He will be remembered for his quick wit, and his inclusion of all, whether you knew Gary or not he treated you as a neighbor and a friend. He coined the phrase “one more”, and for those of you that were close friends you know what that meant. He also had a love of polka music, and rarely missed Sunday mornings “Polka Polka”.  Our beloved brother, father, and papa will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Jodi Ullman of Brussels and Deb (Todd) Thayse of Forestville; son-in-law Daren DeClark of Brussels; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters Fern Jilot and Sally Wagner, and 1 brother-in-law Ken Seigworth of Sturgeon Bay. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Nervin Guelette, his parents-in-law Ralph and Ruth Seigworth, his wife Karen, daughter Jami DeClark, son-in-law R.J. Ullman, sisters Grace Baudhuin, Johanna Guelette, Lucille Vandertie, in-laws Norman Vandertie, James Jilot, William Wagner, and Pat Seigworth.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at St. Hubert Church in Rosiere.  Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 pm and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service.  A prayer service is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Special thanks to Kalyn, Amanda, Jodi, Tony, and Selina who took great care of Gary while he was in the ICU. As well as, Shaina and Gina and the St. Vincent staff.
