Richard Maurer
Richard Maurer, 86, of Brussels, passed away on September 29, 2024, surrounded by family in Luxemburg. He was born April 19, 1938, in the Town of Glenmore (De Pere), WI to Melvin and Lucille (Sorenson) Maurer. Richard attended De Pere High School and on August 30, 1958, he married Joan Dollar at St. Francis Parish in De Pere. They lived in De Pere and Green Bay until 1969 when they moved to Brussels where they farmed for many years. Joan preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2024. Richard served his country in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Local Legion Club. Over the years, he was employed by the Brown County Mental Health Center and Corpus Christi Parish in Sturgeon Bay. Richard served on the Town of Union Board for 20 years in numerous positions including supervisor and chairman. He also served on the Door County Board for 8 years. As a long time and active member of the Brussel’s Lions Club, Richard was awarded the Melvin Jones Award, a highly coveted award from Lions International. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He is survived by four children, Jim (Nora) Maurer, Julie Bockhop, Mike (Tammy) Maurer and Scott Maurer; 12 grandchildren, Willie Bockhop, Ben Bockhop, Chelsea Dantoin, Samantha Maurer, Melissa Myers, Alexa Maurer, Nina Kanowsky, Zach Maurer, Max Maurer, Zach Witak, Dylan Witak, and Dylan Maurer; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Steve) Hotchkiss; in-laws: Rita Lacenski, Leona Beining, and Pat Henning. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law George and Mary (Hecker) Dollar, his wife, and in-laws: Arlene (Cyril) Thomas, Angela (Robert) Roffer, Elsie (Don) Krajnik, Gladys (Joe) Diny, and Janice Henning. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at St. Francis and St. Mary Church, Brussels with Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday until the time of services. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family.
