Connel "Tom" McDermott
Tom McDermott of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin died peacefully in the early morning of November 15, 2024, at Door County Medical Center, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Tom was born on November 14, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to Alice O. (Magruder) and Connel M. McDermott. Tom had a sister, Ona Lee (Albert) Smola, Chicago/Sturgeon Bay (deceased in 2008); and a brother, Dennis J (Mary Ann Kelley), Chicago/Jacksonport. Tom was married to Joanne Dinning of Franklin, Kentucky (born 1931-died 2001). Tom had twelve children: Thomas M. (Diane), David G. (Marianne), Kevin W., Susan (Ron) Hilsabeck, Deborah, Laurie (David) Gahagen, James W., John D. (twins), Clayton J., Hugh F. (twins), Sean O. and Timothy; as well as many grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Tom served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and worked in sales. As an Adult Learner, he earned a bachelor’s Degree from Governors State University, University Park, Il. Seriously injured three years ago as a pedestrian in an automobile accident in Sturgeon Bay, we want to express thanks to the medical and nursing staff of Door County Medical Center, home care from the Veterans Administration, and for the assistance of friends and family, especially to his sons, Sean, Clayton and David and nephew, Michael who, respecting Tom's wish, cared for him at home. A viewing will be held at Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Friday Nov 22, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm. At 7:00 pm that evening a funeral will be conducted with military honors. Burial will be in Bayside Cemetery.
