Michele Hanson

Michele Marie Hanson passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on February 26th, 2025, at the age of 66 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born to Floyd Vertz Sr. and Elizabeth (Kasbohm) Uecker on September 12, 1958, in Milwaukee, WI. She met the love of her life Jim Hanson in 1976, and they later married on October 7, 1978, in Sturgeon Bay. Michele most recently worked in the Maintenance Department at the Door County Justice Center for 20 years and retired on March 4th, 2022. She enjoyed going to the beach, riding motorcycles, cleaning her beautiful home, spending time with family, and traveling. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles up to the Northwoods, and along the Door Peninsula with her husband Jim. She enjoyed visiting her grandchildren in Wausau, WI any chance she had. She loved sitting on her deck on a beautiful sunny day having a cup of coffee and spending time with her sisters. She thought the world of her three sisters; Patty, Louise, and Betty, as they were all connected at the hip spending lots of time together. Michele was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her big radiant smile lit up any room she entered. She always waited on everyone else and always took great care of everyone around her. She lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with her family, her beloved grand-dog, Milo, and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Hanson; her children Ryan (Lera) Hanson, Brittany Hanson; grandchildren, Milana, Alex, Michael, Olivia, and Leo Hanson; mother, Elizabeth (Kasbohm) Uecker; sister, Patty (Joe) Weber; sister Louise (Brian) Franda; brother, Floyd Vertz Jr; sister Betty (DJ) Kittell. She was proceeded in death by her father, Floyd Vertz Sr.; and brother, Jeff (Nancy Moyer) Vertz. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Monday. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family.
