Joseph Daniel "Huck" LaVine
Joseph Daniel “Huck” LaVine, 83, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at home on July 3, 2025. He was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Sturgeon Bay to Theodore and Mary (Sullivan) LaVine. After graduating from Sturgeon Bay High school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, Huck returned to Sturgeon Bay to join the family business running LaVine’s Liquor. He and his brother established The Wine Cellar and Door County Ice Inc. on Sturgeon Bay’s east side. Huck continued to work in the business until he passed away. Huck was a lifelong and avid fan of the Brewers, Badgers and the Packers. He enjoyed ice fishing, playing cards (especially sheepshead), motorcycle riding, and snowmobile racing. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters’ little league, senior league and all-star teams, going on family vacations, and working for the pit crew for Harley Davison in Daytona, Florida. Huck was an avid bowler and could have been in the Wisconsin Bowling Hall of Fame. He is survived by 3 children, Lori (Roland) Coonen, Combined Locks, WI, Ted LaVine, Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Tami (Rick) Hermes, Hobart, WI; 4 grandchildren, Miranda, Trevor, Kaitlyn and Taylor; 4 siblings, Bob (Jan) LaVine, Tom LaVine, Oscar LaVine, and Mary Jo (Wayne) Jome: sister-in-law, Gina LaVine; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Donald “Beany” and Theodore “Hop”; sister-in-law, Judy LaVine; and a nephew, Justin. Memorial services will be conducted at the Forbes Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 7:00 pm. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 until the time of service. Thank you to Unity Hospice and Angela Konshak; to Gaylord and Ozzy for continuing to run the store and for “keeping the beer cold”; and special thanks to Oscar, Mary Jo and Wayne and the rest of “the village” for all the care and support.
