Elizabeth "Betty" Rozek
Elizabeth “Betty” Jane (Felhofer) Rozek, age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, at Angel’s Touch Assisted Living in DePere. She was born on September 16, 1929, to Joseph and Frances (Mosgaller) Felhofer. Following her 1947 graduation from Sevastopol High, Betty worked in Milwaukee for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. Her frequent letters home reflected her love of music, going to dances with friends and playing the trumpet in a woman’s touring band. It was at a local Sturgeon Bay dance hall that she met the love of her life, Richard Rozek. The couple loved riding their Harley Davidson motorcycle as members of the Cherryland Vagabonds Motorcycle Club. They also enjoyed being members of the Door Car Buffs- for car enthusiasts. On October 22, 1949, Richard and Betty married at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Now their new home was the family dairy farm purchased just a few years earlier by her in-laws. The sale of their Harley motorcycle went toward the purchase of a Farmall Super-C tractor and their lives as a farming couple took off. Betty shared farm joys and challenges with her husband and received numerous “Top-Ten Herd” awards from Midwest Breeders for their registered Holsteins. Betty and her husband raised three children – Toni, Roy and Paul-on this dairy farm. They showed their children how to have fun, grateful and generous lives. Mom taught us about important events and cycles of life -planting gardens, harvesting crops, enjoying our pets, caring for sick animals in the middle of the night, being a savvy card partner in 5-handed sheepshead card games, giving us the opportunity to sweat in a hot hay mow, showing us how to deliver baby calves, driving us to catechism classes, witnessing their faith to others. A special gift she shared was attending their children and grandchildren’s sporting and musical events (from childhood into adulthood)! Betty and Richard kept right on dancing those polkas as long as they were able – in a ballroom, in the barn aisle with the radio and milking machines going and beside the kitchen table with Alvin Styczynski’s polka band on TV. They danced at Roy/Becky’s wedding in 1974, Paul/Alice’s wedding in 1983 and Toni/Mike’s wedding in 1999. When Dad’s legs said “no more”, Mom and Dad were still dancing in each other’s hearts. It was a joy for them to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary Party with lots of loved ones in 2009. This year, two days after Mom had passed on from this life, we noted a special day – Wednesday, 10/22/25 - was their 76th Anniversary. Betty had arrived HOME to the God she had worshipped and loved her entire life – to the God she had shared with her children- and to the husband she’d danced with for so many years. We were blessed to have her for 96 years. The last years of our Dad’s life were filled with health issues and Mom’s caregiving, love and compassion for him at home were very evident to all. Likewise, her children took care of Betty during her last seven years at home until cognitive and other health concerns brought her to Angel’s Touch Assisted Living (for the past three years.) During her life, she was an active member of her church -Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Christian Mothers. She worked as a volunteer with Neighbor-to-Neighbor of Door County, enjoyed her East Maplewood Homemakers friends and was a life-time member of the Door Co. Hospital Auxilary. (She loved working in the Beauty Shop there!). Betty was a member of Catholic Financial Life for over 50 years and served in a number of the leadership (officer) roles in this fraternal organization (formerly Catholic Knights). Betty will be deeply missed by her children: Toni (Mike Cane) Rozek, Sturgeon Bay; Roy (Becky Destree) Rozek, Neenah and daughter-in-law Alice (Doherty) Rozek Milwaukee; five grandchildren: Renee (Adam) Bubrozek, Rhonda (Jason) Tongen, Ryan (Brooke) Rozek, Ellen Rozek, Nick (Kristin) Rozek; ten great-grandchildren – Addision and Emily, Kyla and Wesley, Melanie and Molly, Samuel and Abigail, Charles and Callahan; her sister Susan Robinson, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws (Nick and Mary (Novak) Rozek); her husband Richard (died in 2012); her infant daughter Valerie Rozek; her son, Paul Rozek; her sisters, brother and their spouses: Rosie (Don) Olson, Joyce (Tom) Zak, Joe (Beverly) Felhofer, Rodney Robinson; her niece, Terre Felhofer; her two nephews, Donnie Olson and Dennis Olson. Services: There will be one visitation only on Sunday, Nov.2, 2025 from 2 to 4:30 pm at the Forbes Funeral Home, 319 Spruce St. Sturgeon Bay. Prayer service at 4:30 pm on Nov. 2.
