Gerald I. LuMaye, 90, of the Town of Union, passed away at his home on November 26, 2025.
He was born July 31, 1935, at the family farm in Rosiere to August and Adeline (Tassoul) LuMaye. He married Florence Ferron on November 18, 1961, at St. Mary’s Church in Namur.
Gerald graduated from Brussels High School in 1953. After graduation, he moved to Milwaukee and worked as a mechanic. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army. In 1959, he left the Army with an Honorable Discharge and returned home to help the family run the farm after his father passed away. Gerald worked at Peterson Builders for a number of years. He also ran Jerry’s Mobil Service in Dykesville. In 1991, he retired from Fort Howard Paper Co.
Gerald was a member of the Southern Door High School Booster Club and made numerous motorcycle treks which he donated for raffle. He was also a long-time and active member of the Brussels Lions Club where he was very involved with their tractor pulls. He was eventually awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award in 2002. His love for kids and baseball led him to help coach and mentor little league players for many years. Gerald was also a founding member of the emergency response teams in Southern Door County, formerly called South County Rescue. Gerald loved to work outdoors, especially in the woods. He hunted deer but mostly enjoyed just watching them from his “condo”.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Wendy Ulrikson, Wanda LuMaye, Sandy (Greg) Krauel, Dawn (Paul) Krueger; 7 grandchildren, Jim Zillmer, Alicia (Scott) Krueger, Julie (Nick) Weldon, Samantha (Dan) Merkle, Steven (Hilary) Heard, Jerry (Justin) Heard, Jamie (Cory) Habeck; 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two sisters, Sister Gerald LuMaye at St. Francis of the Holy Cross Convent at Bay Settlement and Anne Zeimet; one brother-in-law Lawrence Jandrin; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Mack and Merle LuMaye. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in law, Ray and Mathilda Ferron; twenty two brothers and sisters: Leo, Melvin, Joseph, Harold, Harry, Norbert, Maurice, Lawrence, Isadore, Bernard, August, Cletus, Harold, Anne, Lilly, Mary, Ohoran, Mildred, Alice, Adeline , Margaret and Louisa.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at St. Francis and St. Mary Parish in Brussels. Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2025, and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
