Mary Elizabeth (Stoffel) Onsager, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the afternoon of July 28, 2026, at Pine Haven Assisted Living in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. Mary was born on February 23, 1933, to Arnold and Mary "Mamie" Stoffel. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy High School in 1951 and went on to earn her nursing degree from Holy Family Hospital in 1954. In 1956, Mary married Louie Onsager. Together, they raised five children on a dairy farm outside of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, on Highway S. She dedicated 46 years of her life to caring for others as a nurse at Door County Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2000. Mary led a remarkable life of service, whether she was supporting her community, her family, her friends, or her church. Mary is survived by her sister, Sue Hill (John); her five children, Mark Onsager (Barb), Lou Ann Fischer (Les), Steve Onsager (Karen), Dave Onsager, and Pat Onsager (Vickie); her grandchildren, Karly, Kathryn, Max, Maggie, Andrew, Emily, Julia, and Joel; and her great-grandchildren, Myron, Louie, Hank, Kenzie, Esme, and Wesley; and her sister-in-law Elaine Stoffel. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Bob Stoffel (Bev), Joyce Arbter (Lefty), Bill Stoffel, and John Stoffel; her daughter-in-law, Amy Onsager (Dave); and her granddaughter, Tia Onsager. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Forbes Funeral Home (319 W. Spruce St. Sturgeon Bay, WI). Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM (noon). A nurse’s honor guard ceremony will follow visitation. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, with a reception to follow immediately after at the Valmy Happy Hour (4418 Whitefish Bay Rd, Sturgeon Bay, WI). The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the Pine Haven Assisted Living Facility in Sheboygan Falls for making the last few years so comfortable, welcoming, and secure. They also want to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice team for their exceptional services during her last week; their comforting overnight stays with Mom will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, Pine Haven Christian Communities, or the Door County Medical Center Foundation.
