Barbara S. Ludlow

Barbara S. Ludlow, 83, Kewaunee, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 23, 2026. Barbara was born on August 8, 1942, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, to Milton and Hortense Ludlow. During her early elementary school years, her family moved to Kewaunee, Wisconsin, where she spent most of her life and developed deep roots within the community. As a young woman, Barbara helped at her family's Ludlow Clothing Store in Kewaunee while her father was still living. Her strong work ethic and commitment to serving others became hallmarks of her life. Barbara was best known for her many years with the Kewaunee Star newspaper, where she worked as a reporter and columnist. Through her thoughtful writing and dedication to local journalism, she chronicled the people, events, and stories that shaped the community she loved. Even after retiring from her full-time position, Barbara continued writing her column, remaining a familiar and cherished voice to readers until August 29, 2018, when she published her final column. Outside of her career, Barbara embraced life with enthusiasm. During the winter months, she enjoyed bowling and was proud to earn membership of the National 600 Bowling Club in 1974, a testament to her skill and dedication to the sport. Barbara's greatest passion was golf. She was an accomplished golfer who spent countless hours on the course, enjoying both the game and the friendships it fostered. She treasured the many golf trips she shared with friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a love of the game. Barbara will be remembered for her love of her hometown, her passion for storytelling, and her unwavering commitment to preserving the history and everyday life of Kewaunee through her writing. Whether reporting the news, competing on the bowling lanes, or enjoying a day on the golf course, she lived with dedication, warmth, and an appreciation for the people around her. Her words and her friendship touched countless lives, leaving a lasting legacy in the community she so faithfully served. Barbara is survived by her brother, Dennis (Lorraine) Ludlow of Green Bay, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Hortense Ludlow. A Celebration of Life honoring Barbara will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Uptown Banquet Hall. Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories and celebrate a life well lived. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Mary Kay Messmann and the compassionate staff of Linden Manor for the years of exceptional love, kindness, and care they provided to Barbara. Their support and dedication brought comfort to both Barbara and her family and will always be deeply appreciated. Barbara's memory will be cherished by her family, friends, former colleagues, and the many readers and friends whose lives she enriched throughout the years.
