Cubs walk to walk-off victory against A's on 105.1 The GOAT

Patience and perseverance helped the Institute Cubs break a season-long losing streak with a 10-9 walk-off victory against the Baileys Harbor A's Friday night.

The A's struck first in the first inning when Matt Francesconi singled home Bryce Plzak to make it 1-0. They would add onto the lead even more with a three-run fourth inning with Gavin Blink delivering the biggest blow with a two-RBI single. The A's scratched across two more runs in sixth inning, but that's when the Cubs started to chip away.

The Cubs scored their first run when Robby Pollman reached on an error that got away from the A's Cooper Cole and brought home Josh Pflieger. A Quin Schram single and an Elijah Reimer double later, the Cubs had cut the lead in half heading into the seventh. Blink drove in a third run in the seventh and entered the game's final innings with a 7-3 lead. The Cubs would then draw 10 walks and receive RBI hits from Pollman and Jake Pflieger to give them a 9-7 advantage heading into the ninth inning.

The A's forced extra innings in the ninth inning when Aaron Brey delivered a two-out, two-run RBI to tie the game up at nine. The Cubs nearly won the game in regulation before the A's turned a clutch double play to force extras.

After a quiet top of the 10th for the A's, Arthur Horcevar came off the bench to hit a single. With Nick Peterson running, Schram won the game for the Cubs with a gapper into left-center field to lead the team to victory.

Both teams are still looking at the rest of the Door County Baseball League in the standings, but they each have one win in the 2023 campaign.
