Ports hold off Mets on 105.1 The GOAT

The West Jacksonport Ports kept up their push for a playoff spot with a 9-6 win over the Maplewood Mets on their home diamond.

The Ports took a 3-0 lead in the third inning thanks to a two-run double by Derek Niedzwiecki and an RBI sacrifice fly by Alec Schartner. After Kordell Draves made it a one-run game with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, the Ports scored three more times in the fourth and sixth innings to keep the Mets at bay. Tory Jandrin' solo shot in the fifth and Draves' second homer of the day in the seventh were the bright spots for the Mets. Drew Tanck and Woody Schartner drove in two runs for the Ports while Niedzwiecki registered three RBI.

In other Door County Baseball League action, Kolberg clobbered Institute 28-1, Washington Island snuck past Egg Harbor 6-5, and Sister Bay shut out Baileys Harbor 8-0.

This upcoming weekend, The GOAT will cover Friday's matchup in Institute between the Cubs and the Mets and Sunday's showdown in Egg Harbor with the Bays facing the Indians. Other games include Baileys Harbor hosting West Jacksonport and Washington Island visiting Kolberg.
