Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Justin Steele won for the 15th time and a lone run in the bottom of the first inning was the difference in the Cub’s 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday night.
The loss snapped the Brewer's nine-game winning streak and pulled the Cubs within four games of Milwaukee in the National League Central.
An RBI ground out by Cody Bellinger in the bottom of the first inning was all the Cubs needed as Steel pitched six scoreless innings to improve his record to 15-3.
Brewer starter Corbin Burnes (9-7) took the hard-luck loss going seven innings and allowing only one run on eight hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Milwaukee had early chances against Steel in the first three innings but could not deliver with runners in scoring position going 0-5 in the game.
The Cubs and Brewers will play for a series win Wednesday at Wrigley Field with the first pitch scheduled for 1:20 p.m. Brandon Woodruff (3-1)and Kyle Hendricks (5-7) will take the mound for their respective teams.
