After struggling to mount much offense the past two games, the Milwaukee Brewers slammed six doubles en route to a 7-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night.
Trailing 2-1 going into the fourth inning, the Brewers exploded with four consecutive doubles and ended up scoring four runs to take a 5-2 lead they would not relinquish.
William Contreras hit his 17th home run in the third inning and Colin Rea pitched 4.2 innings to pick up the win in relief as the Brewers used six pitchers to pull out the bullpen game.
Wily Adames paced the hit column for the Brewers with two knocks as Milwaukee maintained a six-game lead over the Cubs and lowered their magic number to six to clinch the division.
St. Louis and Milwaukee will play game three of the four-game series Wednesday night with the first pitch set for 6:45 p.m. Adrian Howser (6-4) will get the start for the Brewers, while St. Louis will counter with Zach Thompson (5-6).
