The Door County YMCA Strivers Gymnastic Team competed in the 35th Annual Turkey Invitational. The tournament was hosted at the Heart of the Valley YMCA in Kimberly, Wisconsin. Ten gymnastic teams from Wisconsin competed in the tournament. They were Door County, Fond Du Lac, Green Bay, Green County, HOTV, Kettle Moraine, Marinette-Menominee, Sheboygan, St. Point, and Wausau.
The Striver Excel Silver Squad led the team with a first-place team trophy. The Silver Squad scored 111.60, earning them first place on the podium. Brinley Newton (11 and under) captured gold in the All Around and bars. Newton earned bronze on the floor. Lauren Gaida (12 and up) won gold in the All Around and beam. Gaida grabbed silver on the floor and vault and earned bronze on bars. Sawyer Soukup (11 and under) won gold on the beam and silver on the bars and all Around. Evenlynn Kelsey (12 and up) won gold on the vault and fourth on the floor. In the eleven and under, Ellie Kelsay earned silver on bars and vault, bronze in the All Around, and fourth on beam. Teammate Greta Virgin earned bronze on the beam and fourth on the floor, vault, and All Around. Keira Clark earned silver on the beam, bronze in the All Around, and fourth on the bars.
Level seven gymnasts earned a fifth-place team finish, scoring 101.35 with three competitors for the Team. In the 14 and under bracket, Estell Duerst won fourth on the beam and fifth in the All Around. Amira Anschutz grabbed bronze on the floor. Portia Hah competed in the 15 and over bracket. She earned bronze on bars.
In the Platinum level, Anna Glalardo-Ibarra grabbed gold on the floor, vault, beam, bars, and All Around. No team awards were given at the Platinum level.
The Strivers are off to a great start for the 2023-2024 season. Their next tournament will be December 2-3, 2024, in Menominee, Michigan. The Striver Team will host their first home meet in three years on January 27-28, 2024, at the Door County YMCA. The Striver Team is coached by Nikki Pollman, Gerrit DeJonge, Heather Haese, and Stacey Berghuis.
