Phoenix women fall to Terps, both teams in action Saturday

The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team saw one game slip away ahead of their final day in the Cancun Challenge.

On Friday, the Maryland Terrapins outscored the Phoenix 23-15 in the final quarter to win the game 68-59. Both teams struggled to shoot in the game as they both shot below 35 percent. The Phoenix found it hard to hit a shot from behind the arc, shooting nine percent. They did start out strong, starting the game on a 10-2 run, but the Terps would not go away quietly. They outrebounded the Phoenix 57-33, showing off their size and strength to the undersized Green Bay squad. Maddy Schreiber scored 12 points while Callie Genke added 11 points. Two other Phoenix players scored nine points. The Terps were led by Shyanne Summers and her 23 points.

The Phoenix women will play their final game of the Cancun Challenge against nationally ranked Washington State. After throttling Maryland in their first game, the Cougars nearly doubled up UMass, winning 90-48. The two teams play each other at 12:30 p.m.

The Phoenix men are also in action on Saturday, hosting St. Thomas at 2 p.m. They are coming off a 1-1 trip to Bozeman where they beat Montana State and lost to UC-Riverside. The Tommies are 3-3 after beating Portland State 76-70 in their last game.
