The area's wrestling teams had a busy Saturday as many had their first matches of the season this week.
The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling team cracked 60 points in three of its five wins on Saturday as it swept the Spartans Duals on Saturday. The Spartans defeated Port Washington 73-5, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 45-18, Sheboygan Falls 77-0, Shawano Community 66-12, and Bay Port 46-25. Thanks to a combination of forfeits and wins, several Spartans ended their days undefeated.
The Southern Door wrestling team dropped both of its matches on Saturday at the Stratford-hosted Schoenherr Duals. The Eagles lost to Stratford 51-25 and Wittenberg-Birnamwood 68-9. Lance Veeser and Hayden Jeanquart were undefeated on the day.
The Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestling team battled deep into their brackets on Saturday as a part of the Kimberly Papermaker Invitational. All five of its wrestlers had at least a chance to win third place on Saturday with Tiani Lemieux, Zak Wrobel, and Seth Laughlin all coming out of it with a bronze finish. Wrobel's day was the most impressive as he pinned his way to the semifinals.
The Kewaunee Storm wrestling team kicked off its season with a pair of top-four finishers at the Kimberly Papermaker Invitational. Aiden Ducat was the top finisher for the Storm, winning his first three matches at 113 pounds before falling in the semifinals. Mitchell Boeder had a similar day with a pair of pins at 215 pounds before he got hurt in his semifinal match, forcing him to forfeit a chance at taking third.
