Phoenix women battle Billikens

Head Coach Kevin Borseth will go for win #801 on Saturday afternoon when the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team welcomes St. Louis to the Kress Events Center.

The Phoenix women overcame a slow start and a poor night from behind the arc to beat the Flames 64-56. For a while, it looked like UIC might just win their first game in Green Bay, but a late run by the Phoenix in the second quarter gave the team momentum to outscore the Flames 22-17 in the third quarter. They would extend the lead into double figures in the fourth quarter before the Flames could whittle away at the deficit late. Natalie McNeal scored a career-high in points with 19 and grabbed five rebounds, while Jasmine Kondrakiewicz contributed 14 points and four rebounds. The win was Borseth's 800th victory in his college coaching career. Of those 800 wins, 488 have come at Green Bay, with other victories coming from stints at Michigan Tech and Michigan.

The Billikens have lost three of their last four games, including a 75-67 loss to Southern Illinois in their last game. Kyla McMakin leads the team in scoring with nearly 17 points a game, while Peyton Kennedy and Brooklyn Gray are also averaging double figures.

Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
