Local teams' rivals see changes from WIAA

Some of the thorns in the side of local high school teams are switching divisions and conferences when they play again next year.

Earlier this month, the WIAA granted requests for conference changes for several teams while shuffling others around due to their success in the state series. According to the WIAA, School programs reaching the six-point threshold during the past three seasons are placed in the division containing the next largest set of enrollments from where the schools’ enrollments would place them for each respective sport other than track & field, swimming &?diving–which do not have a team component to advancement in the Tournament Series–and sports with only one division. Schools are restricted to moving up a maximum of one division from the previous year’s placement. No teams in Door and Kewaunee counties were directly affected by these changes, though their rivals were.

Fox Valley Lutheran, which had been a member of the North Eastern Conference alongside Luxemburg-Casco, will switch to the Bay Conference along with Winneconne, which is moving from the East Central Conference.

Aquinas (football), Darlington (football), Sheboygan Christian/Sheboygan Lutheran (boys soccer), and Xavier (girls volleyball) are among the teams that have knocked out local squads in the past two years that will move up a division due to their most recent success.
