Wrestling Round-Up: Schoenebeck, Spartans win Bi-State

Several wrestlers from the area came home with individual medals after participating in two of the biggest tournaments of the year.

The Luxemburg-Casco wrestling scored the fourth most points out of the 70+ team field en route to a Division 2 championship at the Bi-State Classic in LaCrosse on Saturday. Only three Division 3 teams scored more than the 247 points earned by the Spartans, beating second-place Zumbrota-Mazeppa by 42 points for the Division 2 crown. The Spartans' success was anchored by Trace Schoenebeck, who won the 190-pound weight class with a 3-2 decision against Ethan Winkelman (Hudson) in the championship match. Other place winners include Sam Schutz ( 9th, 175), Max Ronsman (6th, 150), Isaac Jerabek (12th, 144), Caleb Delebreau (5th, 138), Blakelee Bastien (5th, 132), Michael Bostwick (10th, 126), Carson Neubert (3rd, 120), and Carson Blohowiak (12th, 113).

Mitchell Boeder made sure the Kewaunee wrestling team garnered a podium finish during its weekend stay at the On the Water Wrestling Classic in Oshkosh. Boeder went 5-2 on the weekend, including a second-period pin of Warren Sauer (Lomira) to capture 5th place in the tournament. Mitchell VanGoethem and Kemper Robinson finished just outside of the podium, seeing their days end in the fifth round of the consolation bracket.

Two Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestlers made the most of their trip to the On the Water Wrestling Classic in Oshkosh this weekend with podium finishes. Spencer Madsen's (144) final four matches were decided by fall, splitting them to take fourth place overall. Zak Wrobel (175) fought his way through the consolation brackets to take eighth place overall.

Two Southern Door wrestlers made it deep into the On The Water Wrestling Classic in Oshkosh but ultimately came up empty on the weekend. Trevor Englebert and Hayden Jeanquart made it as deep as the fifth round of the consolation bracket but finished outside of the extended podium finish.
