Phoenix men topple Titans

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in its 69-51 win over Detroit Mercy on the road.

As if the win wasn't impressive enough, they did so without Noah Reynolds or Clarence Cummings III leading the team in scoring. That title went to Foster Wonders, who came off the bench and hit four three-pointers in the first half, one of which was a buzzer-beater that sent the Phoenix into the locker room at halftime with a 34-23 lead.

The Phoenix kept flirting with a 20-point advantage for much of the second half thanks to keeping the Titans below 33 percent shooting on the night, including less than 27 percent from behind the arc. The Phoenix, meanwhile nearly made half of its shots while holding a 45-23 rebounding edge. Wonders scored a game-high 14 points, with Preston Ruedinger chipping in with 11 points. Donovann Toatley led the Titans with 14 points in the loss.

The Phoenix women will take on Northern Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m. while the men will play at Oakland Saturday for a 2 p.m. matinee.
