Phoenix men, women post wins Thursday

Green Bay Phoenix basketball fans were treated to a pair of wins on Thursday night, with the men sweeping its season series with Wright State thanks to an 88-81 victory and the women blowing past Detroit Mercy 75-48.

In Detroit, the Phoenix women dominated the middle periods as they outscored the Titans 42-19 thanks to an infusion of offense from its bench players. Bailey Butler led the Phoenix with 14 points while she was joined in double figures by Natalie McNeal (12 pts), Natalie Andersen (11 pts), and Cassie Schiltz (10 pts). Emma Trawally Porta led the Titans with 11 points.

In Dayton, the Phoenix saw their 10-point halftime lead shrink but never eclipsed as they continued to hold onto their second-place slot in the Horizon League. Noah Reynolds very nearly delivered a triple-double performance, scoring 30 points while registering eight rebounds and eight assists. Three other newcomers, Preston Ruedinger (18 points), Foster Wonders (17 points), and Marcus Hall (11 points) all had career highs.

The two teams are back in action on Saturday, with the Phoenix women playing at Oakland at 1 p.m. and the Phoenix men playing at 5:30 p.m. at Northern Kentucky.
