Borseth earns 500th win as Phoenix women cruise

Both Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams won on Thursday, but the women's victory carried the most weight.

The Phoenix women's 67-51 win over Northern Kentucky not only got them back into the win column for the first time since their humbling defeat to Cleveland State last weekend but also marked the 500th in the Green Bay coaching career of Kevin Borseth. He could reach 800 total wins sometime next year at his current pace. It looked bad early as the Norse jumped out to a 15-4 lead in front of the Green Bay fans, but the Phoenix closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to close the gap and closed the door in the third quarter when they outscored their opponent 24-8. Natalie McNeal celebrated her 100th game with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, while  Maddy Schreiber led all scorers with 16 points.

The Phoenix men had more drama in their contest but prevailed against Robert Morris in overtime 81-76. The Phoenix could not hold onto their halftime lead, but outscored the Colonials 16-11 in the extra period to reclaim sole possession of first place in the Horizon League. Player of the Year candidate Noah Reynolds registered his sixth 30-point performance of the season, notching 32 points in the win.

Both teams play matinees on Saturday, with the men playing at Youngstown State at 12:30 p.m. and the women hosting IUPUI at 1 p.m.
