The WIAA girls' basketball tournament began with a triumphant bang in the area, as four local teams won and will play in their regional semi-finals on Friday.
In Division 5, the Sevastopol Pioneers dominated the St. Thomas Aquinas 65-7 at home, as heard on 96.7 WBDK.
The Gibraltar Vikings traveled north and knocked off the Niagara Badgers 45-43 on 105.1 The Goat, setting up a showdown with the Pioneers on Friday.
In Division 4, the Algoma Wolves led from start to finish to easily defeat the Roncalli Jets 59-39 at home on 104.1 WRLU.
The Southern Door Eagles upset the New Holstein Huskies 47-41 on U102.1 and will advance to Friday’s semi-final.
In Division 3, the Sturgeon Bay Clipper season came to an end with a 48-35 loss to the Tomahawk Hatchets.
Two other area teams received byes on Tuesday. In Division 4, the Kewaunee Storm will host the winner of Howards Grove/Kohler on Friday night on 104.1 WRLU and the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will travel to Watertown in a Division 2 matchup.
