The Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team made sure there was no repeat of their performance in Oakland, Mich. on Thursday night, trouncing the Golden Grizzlies 74-45.
After losing their previous matchup on a last-second layup, the Phoenix outscored the Golden Grizzlies 18-5 in the first quarter and 15-9 in the second quarter to build up a big advantage at the break. Maddy Schreiber and Bailey Butler both recorded double-doubles, with Schreiber scoring 15 points and ten rebounds, while Butler had a more unconventional ten rebound/ten assist game. Luxemburg-Casco product Cassie Schiltz chipped in nine points in the win, which was the Phoenix's fifth straight. They return to action Saturday afternoon to face Detroit-Mercy.
The Phoenix men kick off their weekend at the Kress Center at 6 p.m. Friday against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons. Northern Kentucky defeated the Phoenix 58-57 last Wednesday at the Resch Center in their last action on the court. Two losses to the Norse bookend a five-game winning streak that has put the Phoenix a half-game behind Oakland for the conference lead.
