Gibraltar boys close regular season Saturday with Hilbert

The Gibraltar Vikings boys' basketball team will play the final regular season game for the entire area on Saturday when they welcome Hilbert to Fish Creek.

The Vikings have lost four straight games since they swept a weekend set against Sevastopol and St. Lawrence Seminary earlier this month. That includes a 54-24 loss to Menominee (MI) Thursday night. Braden Sitte was the lone Vikings player to reach double figures with 10 points. Aaron Brey added five points and Will Lecy contributed four more in the loss. Saturday's game will include festivities for the team's two seniors, Braden Sitte and Marshall Maltby. Senior Day had to be rescheduled after Maltby became ill and missed two games against Sturgeon Bay and Algoma. Head coach Travis Ward salutes Sitte and Maltby's effort during a memorable time during the program's history.

The Wolves come into the matchup fresh off of snapping a five-game losing streak with a nail-biting 38-36 win over Sheboygan Christian. Kaelin VandenWyngaard leads the team in scoring 14.3 points per game and is second in rebounding with 5.5 boards per game. This will be the first of two straight games against Packerland Conference opponents for the Wolves as they will open their WIAA Tournament run against NEW Lutheran.

Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.

The Vikings will then focus on the tournament when they travel to Florence to take on the Bobcats for the second straight year. That game will be covered from Florence on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the tip at 7 p.m.
