Pirates steal win from Blizzard

The Green Bay Blizzard led by as many as 18 points in the third quarter, but saw that advantage evaporate in a 44-40 loss to the Massachusetts Pirates in the team's season opener on Sunday.

The Blizzard jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead thanks to two rushing touchdowns and took a 27-16 advantage into halftime. They had their biggest lead of the game in the opening minutes of the third quarter and reclaimed that 18-point advantage midway through the frame, but the Pirates would score the game's next 22 points to steal the win from the host Blizzard.

Quarterback Max Meylor threw for two touchdowns and ran for another three while racking up 185 total yards in the loss for the Blizzard. They are back in action on March 23rd when they host the Iowa Barnstormers.
