The area's last hope on the softball diamond will play in front of its home crowd on Tuesday when Algoma hosts Random Lake for the WIAA Sectional Semi-final.
The Wolves capitalized on an error in the fifth inning to comeback and beat the St. Mary's Springs Ledgers 2-1 in the Division 4 Regional championship last Thursday at Peterson Park. The Wolves took the lead when Jayden Nellis scored from second base on a ground ball throw that was dropped at first base for an error with two outs. Macie Zimmerman took over from there for the Wolves, retiring the final eight batters and striking out the side in the seventh to end the game.
The Rams won their regional with a 13-0 beating of Manitowoc Lutheran last Tuesday before sneaking past St. Mary Catholic 3-2 last Thursday. Single tallies in the first, second, and third innings were all the Rams could muster, and cut a two-run rally in the fourth by the Zephyrs to avert the early tournament exit.
First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
