Local athletes honored with All-Conference honors

Area athletes were recently recognized for their superior seasons as the Packerland Conference announced their All-Conference teams.

 

The three co-Packerland Conference champions combined for 19 all-conference selections after they were announced late last month. Algoma led the way with seven selections, followed by six apiece for Kewaunee and Gibraltar. Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door each had four while Sevastopol garnered two. Oconto catcher Kyle Bowman was named the sport's All-Packerland Conference Player of the Year.

 

Local schools dominated the post-season awards in golf for the Packerland Conference.Finishing the conference slate with a string of victories, Kewaunee's Evan Maccaux won Player of the Year honors as a sophomore, in addition to his first-team honors. Conference champion Sturgeon Bay led all schools with two selections.

 

With two years left in her high school softball career, Macie Zimmerman is already making her mark. The Algoma pitching ace was named the Packerland Conference's player of the year last month, picking up a first-team nod as a pitcher along the way. She was one of seven Wolves players to pick up All-Packerland Conference honors. 

 

The All-Packerland Conference soccer teams were announced with a relatively even split among the local sides. Sturgeon Bay placed six on the conference squads while Sevastopol/Gibraltar had five. The conference player of the year was Peshtigo's Audra Bauman.
