Green Bay could be the home site for one of the teams competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The city joins nine others that could host an international team for their base camp despite not being a host for actual games. According to FIFA, the list of potential team base camps will grow, with further options across Canada, Mexico and the USA to be added. “Even if a city is not staging matches, a participating team coming to stay creates a strong personal bond with the competition for people locally. It will see them adopt their guests as a second team during the tournament, thereby connecting even more people to the FIFA World Cup,” said Heimo Schirgi, Chief Operating Officer World Cup.
If selected, the to-be-determined team would train at Lambeau Field and stay across the street at Lodge Kohler. It would be a haul for any team to travel from Green Bay to one of the host cities. Toronto and Kansas City are the closest at 432 miles and 504 miles respectively.
