Area cross country teams race under the lights Friday

One of the most unique cross country races in Wisconsin kicks off Friday night with several local teams participating.

 

Gibraltar, Sevastopol, and Sturgeon Bay are set to join Valley Christian, Fond du Lac, Antigo, Little Chute, Seymour, Amherst, Athens, Campbellsport, Cedar Grove-Belgium, Coleman, De Pere, Dodgeland, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Green Bay Preble, Green Bay Southwest, Hilbert, Mishicot, Northland Pines, Omro, Lourdes Academy, Port Washington, St. Mary Catholic, Sheboygan Christian, Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan South, Shiocton, Shorewood, Laona-Wabeno, Waupaca, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Winneconne, Weyauwega Fremont, Reedsville, Westfield-Pioneer, Kewaskum, Marinette, and Providence Academy (Green Bay) under the lights of Winagamie Golf Course for the Nightfall Classic 920. The first races are set to begin at 7:45 p.m.

 

THURSDAY ACTION

Three Southern Door runners found themselves in the Top 10 in their respective races at Thursday's Chilton Tigers, including the individual champion on the girls' side. The Eagles' Emma Bousley covered the 5K course in a time of 20:21, a personal record for her and her first cross country win in her high school career. As a team, the Eagles took third with 44 points with the home team winning the meet with a score of 44. Southern Door cross country runner Ben Grota found himself in the top 10 once again on Thursday, this time in the Chilton Tiger Invite. His 5K time of 17:31 was good for seventh overall and first on the Eagles' boys squad that finished in third place with 85 points. Led by individual runner-up Kaleb Plate and his time of 16:58, Chilton won their home meet with a score of 30.
