With one week to go, the area's football teams are trying to leave no doubt that there will be an extra game tacked onto the end of their season.
The WIAA is forecasting who will make the field through its preliminary contenders' report. The organization stresses that it is a not a final qualifying field, but based on results compiled through the week selected.
As of Monday, Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco, Sturgeon Bay, and Southern Door are listed as being among the 180 teams in the playoff field.
The eight-player field has not been set and the WIAA is not making any predictions as of right now. Sevastopol is the lone team in the area with a shot of making the playoffs with Algoma not being eligible due to its size and Gibraltar winless on the season.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association will release the 11-player and 8-player 2024 football playoff qualifying fields and pairings during a one-hour live program on the WIAA State Tournament Network stations and streamed on the stations’ websites Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. There will be 224 teams qualifying for the 11-player post-season with four playoff levels prior to the State Championship finals. The State finals will be played Thursday-Friday, Nov. 21-22 at Camp Randall in Madison. There will be 16 teams participating in the 8-player post season with three playoff levels prior to the State Championship final, which will be played Saturday, Nov. 16 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School and streamed live on WIAA.TV.
