The Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams will both open against Big 12 teams on the road on Monday to kick off their regular seasons under new leadership.
Doug Gottlieb will make his coaching debut against his alma mater when the Phoenix men battle Oklahoma State in Stillwater at 8 p.m. The Phoenix men won their lone exhibition game on Thursday, Oct. 24 against St. Norbert 102-73 behind a 40-plus performance from former NAIA All-American Anthony Roy. Even though much of the roster was overhauled from last year following former head coach Sunny Wicks' departure, the Phoenix do return Foster Wonders, Preston Ruedinger, and Marcus Hall.
Kayla Karius will coach her first game as the leader of the Phoenix women's program when they play in Manhattan, Kan. against Kansas State. The Wildcats are ranked #13 in the country after making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago. The Phoenix women bring back a veteran group that broke their NCAA drought last year. The two teams tip off at 11 a.m.
