It was a weekend of mixed results for the Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams as the men dropped a hard-fought game to Providence while the women snuck out of North Dakota with their second consecutive win.
In Saturday's 79-65 loss to the Friars, the Phoenix men had things tied at 36 at the break and had a slim two-point lead late in the second half. A 12-0 Friars put them ahead 55-50 lead, and they never looked back. Marcus Hall led the way with 19 points, while Anthony Roy added 17 points, and Jeremiah Johnson contributed another 10 points. They host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Tuesday.
In Sunday's 66-63 win over the Fighting Eagles, the Phoenix women were able to grind out slim advantages in each of the final three quarters thanks to a balanced scoring attack and timely defense. Maddy Schreiber the Phoenix with 13 points, while Cassie Schiltz added another 12 points. Three players, Natalie McNeal, Jenna Guyer, and Bailey Butler, scored eight points apiece. They host DePaul on Thursday.
