Wrestling teams pile up wins and hardware on Saturday

Area wrestling teams piled up plenty of matches on Saturday to cap off a busy start to the 2024-2025 campaign.

Kewaunee wrestler earned one title and missed out two others at Saturday's Kimberly Papermaker Invitational. Arianna Niemojuski won three of her four matches by pin as she won the 152 pound weight class for girls. Aidan Ducat posted two tech falls and a pin to go along with an exciting sudden victory match in the third round before he was majored in the championship match. Mitchell Boeder suffered a similar fate at 285 pounds as he posted two pins and a regular decision before he was majored in his final match of the day.

The Luxemburg- Casco wrestling team won two of its five matches on Saturday during its home duals featuring teams from around the state. The Spartans started the day by beating Sheboygan Falls 78-0 and Oshkosh West 38-33 before losing its duals to Weyauwega-Fremont 36-31, Port Washington 39-36, and Bay Port 51-20. Joseph Jeanquart, Blakelee Bastien, and Carson Neubert went 5-0 on the day.

The Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestling team came home with two gold medals and a silver from their day at the Kimberly Papermaker Invitational on Saturday. Spencer Madsen registered two pins and a technical fall en route to a championship at 165 pounds, while Zak Wrobel collected three pins for his title at 175 pounds. Ethan Denamur had two pins, but was pinned himself in the first period of his championship match to take second place.

The Southern Door Eagles wrestling team could only muster 15 points across two matches at Saturday's Schoenherr Duals. Giving up five weight classes to state-power Stratford, Lance Veeser's 3-1 regular decision represented the Eagles' lone points in a 76-3 loss. Veeser also earned the lone contested win in a 69-12 loss to Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
