DCY Swim Team Shines at Prestigious Walter Schroeder Finalist Meet

The DCY Swim Team made waves this past weekend, securing an outstanding victory at the Walter Schroeder Finalist Meet, one of the premier winter swim meets for YMCA teams in Wisconsin and Illinois. The event, known for attracting top talent across all age groups, saw 16 teams and over 2,500 events contested, with DCY SWIM emerging triumphant as one of the smallest yet mightiest teams in attendance.

With a roster of just 32 swimmers, the DCY Swim Team competed in 153 individual events and eight relays, achieving a remarkable 63 top-six finishes that contributed to their team score. Over 60 personal bests were recorded across the three-day competition, showcasing the dedication and skill of these athletes.

While holding strong in second place through Friday and Saturday, it was the younger age groups who propelled DCY to the top on Sunday, delivering outstanding performances that helped secure the overall win. This achievement was further highlighted by Julia Michalski and Daylia Sund, who both surpassed the National Cut for the 100 Breaststroke with incredible times of 1:07, well under the 1:08.19 qualifying mark.

DCY’s 15-and-over relay teams also impressed, swimming within striking distance of national qualifying times, underscoring the depth and potential of this dynamic group.

“This victory is a testament to the hard work and focus of our swimmers,” said Mike McHugh, Director of Competitive Swim. “To achieve this level of success as a smaller team is truly extraordinary. We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes.”

Up Next: Jingle Bell Meet at DCY

The DCY Swim Team will host the Jingle Bell Meet this Saturday, welcoming seven teams from across the region. This event promises to deliver thrilling races and the opportunity to see some of the fastest swimmers in the state. Community members are encouraged to attend and cheer on these talented athletes.
