Area wrestling teams head to Bay Port, Brillion

After the girls took the mats on Friday, the boys will get their turn on Saturday in high school wrestling action.

 

Southern Door and Luxemburg-Casco Appleton North, Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, Beaver Dam, Brookfield East, De Pere, Denmark, East Troy, Elkhorn, Escanaba, Franklin, Germantown, Homestead, Kewaskum, Kiel, Mishicot, Mukwonago, Oconto Falls, Oshkosh West, Pewaukee, Plymouth, Seymour, Shawano Community, Slinger, St. Croix Falls, Wausau West, West Bend West, West De Pere, Winneconne, and Wrightstown for the Battle on the Bay at Bay Port in Suamico beginning at 8 a.m.

 

Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay will follow the lead of the area's girls wrestling team and head to Brillion for the boys tournament. Little Chute, Green Bay United, Lourdes Academy, Manitowoc Lutheran, Peshtigo, Waupaca, Waupun, West Bend East, and Xavier will also compete when the tournament begins at 9:30 a.m.

 

In Friday's action, Southern Door's 67 points were good enough to be the area's top-performing team and the sixth-best at the Brillion Girls Wrestling Tournament won by Bonduel. The Eagles' Sydney Turner recorded three pins at 138 pounds en route to an individual title. Nora LeFevre rebounded from a loss in the semis to take third place at 120 pounds. Portia Hah went 3-3 to take sixth overall. Lanie Brauer returned home from Brillion as the only Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestler to earn hardware at Friday's Brillion Girls Wrestling Tournament. Brauer went 4-2 on the day and won fourth place overall. Izzy Andreae won four of her six matches, but ended up short of the podium. One of Luxemburg-Casco's three girls wrestlers garnered a podium finish at Friday's tournament in Brillion. Kiley Georgel won four of her five matches to win third place overall at 185 pounds. Evelyn Lange picked up two wins, while Jakayla earned one win.
