This week the non-profit board of the Door County Triathlon approved distributions to local charities totaling $60,000 for the 2024 fiscal year. This brings total funds raised by the annual swim-bike-run event to more than $1 million. The event, which started in 2005, recently celebrated its 20th year.
The official charities of the event—the Door County YMCA and the Friends of Door County Parks—have received 80% of the funds donated. The remainder, just over $200,000, has gone to 46 other local charities during the past 20 years.
The triathlon takes place at Frank E. Murphy County Park in Egg Harbor each July.
