Two area teams are ranked in their respective sports ahead of the New Year next week.
In basketball, no girls teams are ranked according to WisSports, but the Southern Door boys are #7 in Division 4 with a 4-1 mark. That is up two spots from the previous week. Drew Daoust is 16th highest scorer in the state with an average of 28.4 points per game.
In wrestling, Luxemburg-Casco is the tenth-ranked team in Division 1 after being bumped up from Division 2 ahead of the 2024-2025 season. The Spartans have five wrestlers ranked according to WisconsinGrappler.com, including Carson Blohowiak (9th, 120 lbs), Carson Neubert (1st, 132 lbs.), Joseph Jeanquart (9th, 138 lbs), Blakelee Bastien (4th, 144 lbs.), and Logan Ellwanger (11th, 165 lbs.). On the girls side, Kiley Georgel is ranked 7th at 185 pounds. Other ranked wrestlers include Kewaunee's Aidan Ducat (8th, D3 120 lbs.) and Mitchell Boeder (7th, D3 285 lbs.), Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's Spencer Madsen (3rd, D2 165), Zak Wrobel (4th, D2 175), Tiani Lemieux (5th, Girls 145 lbs.), and Southern Door's Nora LeFevre (9th, Girls 120 lbs.) and Sydney Turner (11th, Girls 138 lbs.).
