Boys wrestling begin road to Madison Saturday

The area's four wrestling teams will be spread out across three divisions on Saturday as they compete in their respective regional tournaments on Saturday.

Thanks to the WIAA's new performance factor rules, Luxemburg-Casco will make its Division 1 debut at Green Bay Preble for their regional. Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Green Bay Preble, Green Bay United, Pulaski, and West De Pere will also compete when the first matches begin at 9:30 a.m.

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol will still carry the area's torch in Division 2 when it travels to Denmark for its regional tournament. Berlin, Chilton/Hilbert, Denmark, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah/Howards Grove, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Kiel, Little Chute, Ripon, Two Rivers, Winneconne, Wrightstown, and Xavier will also be competing.

Kewaunee and Southern Door will try to punch their ticket to sectionals in Omro beginning at 10 a.m. Almond-Bancroft, Brillion, Lourdes Academy, Manitowoc Lutheran, Mishicot, New Holstein, Reedsville, Tri-County, Valders, and Weyauwega Fremont will also be wrestling at the meet.

GIRLS REGIONAL RESULTS

Kewaunee's Arianna Niemojuski's season will last at least one more weekend after taking second place in the WIAA Girls Wrestling Regional at Wrightstown. Niemojuski won two of her three matches, ending her day with a pin of Emerson Otis (Kimberly) to take second place and a higher seed at next weekend's sectional in Menasha.

Kiley Georgel's championship at 185 pounds led the way for the Luxemburg-Casco girls wrestling team at the Wrightstown Regional on Friday night. Georgel only had one contested match to worry about and made the most of it, pinning Rayanah Yates (West De Pere) in three minutes. Jakayla Steinhorst split her two contested matches at 107 pounds to take second place. Georgel and Steinhorst will wrestle at next weekend's sectional meet. Evelyn Lange missed out on punching her ticket to sectionals, taking fifth place after posting a 2-2 record on the night.

The Southern Door girls wrestling team took first, second, third, and fourth at Friday's regional hosted at Wrightstown. Nora LeFevre captured the crown at 107 pounds, pinning her way to the title with a final win against Jakayla Steinhorst (Luxemburg-Casco) in her first and only match of the evening. Sydney Turner pinned her way to the title match before taking second place at 138 pounds. Portia Hah split her four matches with two pins to take third place at 126 pounds. Coming in fourth place, Attyson Wilson won one of her three contested matches to punch a ticket to the sectional meet at Menasha.

Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol sent three girls to Friday's WIAA Girls Wrestling Regional and brought all three back with dates for next weekend's Menasha sectional after the trio placed in the top four. Tiani Lemieux's day ended early due to injury, but she was still able to hold onto second place after splitting her contested matches at 145 pounds. Lanie Brauer split her contested matches at 165 pounds to take third place while Izzy Andreae was able stake her claim to fourth place at 152 pounds.
